Frequently Asked Questions

The following information may be useful for customers looking to maintain their watch.

Changing a battery.

Everyday / Dress Watch
We recommend taking your watch to a local reputable jeweller and asking them to change the battery for you. You’ll need to do this every two years or so. We use Renata 362 batteries and do not suggest any other brand.

If you want to do it at home, you’ll need a set of jewellers screwdrivers. The 1.8mm or 2mm screwdriver can be used to removed the caseback screws; the 1mm is best for the battery clamp inside. Please be aware that this is a delicate process and that you could permanently and irreparably damage your watch if you do it wrong. We’ve seen some terrible attempts over the years. This is why we suggest getting a professional to do it.

Field Watch
— The field watch has a long-life rechargeable battery that is powered by the solar cell behind the dial. The battery should last 15 years before it needs replaced. Please do not keep the field watch in a drawer. Regular (ideally natural) light will mean it should keep time correctly and maintenance free for the entirety of its life. If your Field Watch has been kept in darkness for an extended period of time, it will take a while to start ticking again. Leave it on a window ledge for a week.

Dress Watch
— Due to the push fit caseback on the dress watch, we would always suggest taking this model to a local reputable jeweller to change the battery.

Replacement Pins & Tools

Spring Bar Pins for the Everyday and Dress Watch can be easily and cheaply purchased online. Search for ‘18mm spring bars’ and check that they are 1.5mm thick, rather than 1.8mm. They will also work for the strap buckles on the Everyday Watch.

If you need the tool, these can also be found online. Search for ‘forked watch tool’.

Repairs.

For any watch repairs such as:
— Movement replacements (quartz or mechanical)
— Hand re-attachments/re-alignments
— Crystal replacements

We recommend going to AMJ (www.amjwatchservices.co.uk/). We don’t get paid for recommending them - we just know they do a good job, having used them for many years.
